Becca Torres, one of Friendly Planet Travel’s reservationists, told you what she thought were the best travel apps for your smart phone back in June. The other day I saw that MSNBC.com listed their favorite “Apps that simplify travel.”
They include some of the apps Becca reviewed and similar ones, such as Gate Guru. But there a few new apps that stand out from the crowd for me. They are
World Customs and Cultures, Where, and Tripwolf.
I’ll be downloading them on my iPhone and will let you know how they stack up as soon as I get to put them to use. Also flip back to the article to see what other travel apps made the cut. And let me know, are there any other travel apps you use that you can’t live without?
I wanted to thank several travel editors for featuring some of our tours in their recent coverage. Thank you!

If something goes wrong when you’re traveling — a lost confirmation number, a mixed-up reservation, a bad hotel experience — it can easily seem like the cards are stacked against you. But there’s one travel journalist who has dedicated his career to helping people get the service they deserve when away from home: Christopher Elliott.
Elliot has been called one of the world’s leading travel experts. He is National Geographic Traveler magazine’s reader advocate, and writes the syndicated Travel Troubleshooter column, which appears in more than 50 U.S. newspapers and Web sites.
He also produces a popular weekly commentary and podcast on MSNBC.com and writes the Navigator column in Sunday’s Washington Post.
I had the chance to talk to the guru himself, and get the scoop on getting what you deserve. Elliott graciously gave us some of his time to talk about himself, his career, and a traveler’s best friend: common sense. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the latest Friendly Planet Travel podcast with Chris Elliott.
Instead of ringing a bell here every time Friendly Planet Travel makes headlines, I thought it would be easier to provide a wrap up post every week or so that highlights some of the recent press coverage we’ve gotten. Way to go, FPT team!
