Check off ’1,000 Places To See Before You Die’ with an autographed copy

When Friendly Planet Travel was at The Philadelphia Inquirer Travel Show, Melissa got the opportunity to interview Patricia Schultz, author of “1,000 Places To See Before You Die.” After their chat, Melissa scored an autographed copy of Patricia’s book. Take a look below.

If you’re not familiar with the book, jump back to my previous post to find out how it became a milestone in travel journalism. In fact, many of Friendly Planet Travel’s destinations are featured in it. Spots such as Halong Bay, Vietnam; Phuket, Thailand; the Masai Mara, Kenya; Table Mountain, South Africa; and more. We must be on the same page as Patricia as to what destinations you should see before you die. ;)

But I’m not going to tease you with just images of Patricia’s John Hancock. I’m giving you the chance to win it! Here’s what you have to do to win a signed copy of “1,000 Places To See Before You Die” by Patricia Schultz. To enter to win, leave a comment on this post telling me about two places you want to see before you die, and why.

To be eligible to win, you must include your first name and an e-mail address where we can contact you if you win in the comment. And if you want two chances to win, you can also log in to Twitter and tweet: @FriendlyPlanet I want to win a signed copy of “1,000 Places To See Before You Die” http://bit.ly/f5N2vZ #travel.

But if you tweet, sign your comment with your Twitter handle so we know to count your submission twice. The commenting contest starts today and ends on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. EST. One winner will be randomly selected from the pool of comments and tweets, and announced on the blog and on the Friendly Planet Travel Facebook page. Good luck!

  1. The beauty of Victoria Falls in southern Africa and the second place used to be New Zealand, but I’d like to now go to Fukushima, Japan where a few relatives live, so that I can help rebuild and help the people of Japan.

  2. I have a dream of seeing the sacred temples of Nepal and swimming the great Barrier reef. Both take you away from this world into a magic place only to return with fresh new eyes.

Would love to go to Borneo in Malaysia to see the lovely orangatan, and would also like to take a spiritual journey back to Israel, where I haven’t been since I was a child.

Australia and Antarctica – they’re the two continents I’ve never visited.

  5. I have travelled much of the world but I have not yet been to the Taj Mahal, Agra, India or Petra, Jordan. These seem like fasinating places.

I would like to visit South Georgia to buy stamps and play with penguins. I also would like to take the train from Ulan Bator to Moscow stopping at Lake Baikal — the whole way I would pretend to be in the movie Dr. Zhivago.

I would like to visit Antarctica…..I can’t think of any place on Earth that is so pure. Another trip I would like to do is a safari in Africa…more nature!

  9. It’s been my dream to visit Japan and I actually was scheduled to go on the first trip to Japan w/ Friendly Planet this month. Obviously the current conditions prevented this dream. But, I’m still anxious to go once Japan recovers from the devastation. However, if there are recovery missions to Japan, I will go!

But if I never make it to Japan my other dream destinations are Ethiopia (primarily to visit the churches to see the Coptic Crosses), India (primarily to visit the Taj Mahal), China (to walk the great wall) and Israel. [Will Friendly Planet offer a trip to Ethiopia???]

Morocco, the the desert and sand dunes alone I think would be amazing to see. Thailand, paddling secret lagoons, the Loy Krathong Festival of light, exploring the beaches and so much more……

I need to visit Ukraine, where both my parents are from. I need to visit Australia, where my dad lived for many years before coming to the United States. And of course I need to visit all the US National Parks (I’ve only been to two!).

Oh, it’s hard to only choose two! No matter where I go, there’s always something to see, enjoy, and learn. But, how about two from the G’s on my list?
    1) The Galapagos
    2) The Grand Canyon
